Self healing is all about implementing healthy and sustainable routines into your daily life that enhance wellness and support the healing process. It usually involves a combination of healing modalities and can take some time to get the hang of.
Older adults interviewed emphasized that self-healing can be achieved through exercise (physiology), positive psychology, and healthy interpersonal relationships. They cited as examples physical strength and stamina, muscle flexibility and health, a positive outlook and optimism, and openness in interpersonal relations.
1. Exercise
Incorporating self healing practices into your daily routines can help you feel more at ease. You can start by changing your media intake to avoid watching negative news, for example, and by focusing on your breath to create more calmness.
Traditional enterprise networks rely on redundancy to prevent network connectivity failures from halting business-critical traffic flows. However, self-healing networks go beyond redundancy to optimize, predict and automatically intervene when network performance degradation is detected or even anticipated.
Physiological components of self-healing include eating habits, exercise, sleep patterns, and chronic illness control. Psychological components are mindfulness, positive thinking, and stress management. Spiritual aspects include religion and personal satisfaction.
2. Meditation
Whether you have an ache, a chronic illness or want to feel better after surgery, healing meditation can be a big help. Research shows that meditation is a powerful tool for self-healing and overall wellness.
Various studies show that meditation changes the structure of your brain. It increases your feelings of calm and peace and decreases stress, anxiety and depression.
Healing meditation, which draws from ancient philosophies and several world religions, may include affirmations and guided imagery as well as techniques for observing thoughts and feelings without judgment. This can help you move through emotions more efficiently to expedite the healing process. It can also improve sleep quality, which is important for physical and emotional healing.
3. Yoga
Yoga is a mind-body practice that improves health, fitness and wellness. It is believed to help reduce stress levels and strengthen parts of the brain that affect memory, attention, awareness, thinking and language.
It may also have some benefits for people with chronic diseases. For example, it may be helpful for those with multiple sclerosis to decrease fatigue, and people with arthritis in reducing pain and improving quality of life.
Studies show that yoga improves balance, strength and flexibility. It may also reduce the risk of some cancers, heart disease and high blood pressure, and may help people lose weight and improve their mood.
4. Nutritional supplements
Nutritional supplements are herbs, vitamins, minerals and homeopathic remedies. They can be found at pharmacies, health food stores and supermarkets. They are also available from herbalists, naturopaths, doctors of Chinese medicine and homeopaths. Studies show that people who use nutritional supplements are more likely to report very good or excellent health, have health insurance, drink alcohol moderately and eschew cigarette smoking. Taking nutritional supplements is important for self healing, because they provide energy needed for work and exercise. One of the most important nutritional supplements is iron. This mineral helps form hemoglobin, the substance that carries oxygen throughout your body. It is found in liver, lean red meat, poultry, fish, lentils, beans, fortified cereals and dark leafy vegetables.
5. Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy uses the scents of plants to promote physical and mental healing. Plants have natural oils that, when inhaled, can stimulate your olfactory system, which is linked to the emotional center of your brain. The oils can then trigger physiological responses like reducing stress, improving sleep and boosting mood.
Talk to your healthcare provider before trying aromatherapy, especially if you have any diagnosed medical conditions or take prescription medication. Also, make sure you’re choosing high-quality products. Avoid ones with added fragrances, chemicals and other additives that may irritate your skin. Look for dark-colored bottles that protect the integrity of the oil. Always dilute the essential oil with a carrier oil before adding it to your bath or applying topically.
6. Self-talk
Positive self-talk is a vital tool for fostering wellness and balance. When combined with other mental health techniques such as journaling, gratitude practice, mindfulness, goal setting, visualization, physical activity, breathing exercises, social support, and professional help, positive self-talk forms a robust framework that supports the achievement of goals and pursuit of personal growth.
Identifying negative thinking patterns is an important first step in shifting self-talk. Keeping a thought journal and/or discussing your thoughts with a trusted friend can help you identify and challenge negative patterns. Changing the internal narrative requires practice and consistency, but is well worth it in the long run. Negative thoughts can lead to self-doubt, lack of confidence, stress, anxiety and depression if left unchecked.
