Wellness consciousness is a powerful and dynamic concept that influences health behaviors. It is associated with a wide range of theories and empirical findings in different contexts. This chapter reviews some of the key concepts in the wellness literature.
Spiritual wellness involves possessing a set of guiding beliefs, principles or values that give meaning and purpose to life. It also includes a strong sense of spiritual fulfillment, forgiveness and joy.
It is a holistic approach to health
Wellness is the integration of physical, mental, and spiritual health. It is a way of life that promotes thriving rather than simply surviving. It includes healthy habits like regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and meditation. It also incorporates mindfulness and self-care practices. This approach to healthcare can be empowering and help individuals to take control of their health.
Unlike conventional medicine, holistic healthcare takes into account the whole person and recognizes that different aspects of a patient’s life contribute to their health and well-being. It emphasizes prevention over treatment and focuses on removing barriers to wellness.
Holistic healthcare can be accessed through various means, including herbal remedies and natural supplements. These approaches are often more cost-effective than traditional medication and can reduce the risk of side effects. They can also improve overall wellbeing by addressing the root causes of disease.
It is a proactive approach to health
Wellness consciousness is a multidimensional approach to health that includes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. It aims to help people improve their quality of life by adopting healthy habits and behaviours. It also encourages people to prioritize their own wellbeing, and can be used as a tool to increase self-responsibility.
Physical wellness includes taking routine medical exams, immunizations and safety precautions, getting adequate sleep, eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly. It can also include practicing mindfulness exercises and cognitive-behavioural strategies to reduce stress.
Proactive care is an important aspect of healthcare and a way to avoid life-threatening conditions. It involves regular patient-provider conversations and active monitoring to prevent disease progression, which can lower overall healthcare costs.
It is a positive approach to health
Wellness consciousness is a positive approach to health that focuses on preventing disease and improving quality of life. It involves a wide range of activities and behaviors, such as exercise, diet, and stress management. It also includes emotional and spiritual well-being. It is important to maintain a balance of all the dimensions of wellness to achieve holistic health.
This study aims to explore the influence of people’s health consciousness on their home-based exercise during the COVID-19 pandemic. It reveals that health consciousness directly influences home-based exercise and mediates the effects of health life goal and perceived behavioral control on home-based exercise.
The study also highlights that people with low SEP and limited health literacy levels can benefit from a more holistic approach to wellbeing, including skills to improve their lifestyle and resilience. It would be useful for future research to explore these skills among these groups, as well as their underlying motivations and barriers. These include coping tools, feeling-good tools, meaning-making tools, and prospecting tools.
It is a dynamic approach to health
Wellness consciousness is an approach that enables individuals to reach their full potential physically, emotionally and spiritually. It includes taking an active role in their own health and the environment. It also involves achieving personal goals in their family, community, place of worship and workplace.
Physical wellness is about a healthy body, including routine medical exams and immunizations, proper diet and nutrition, adequate sleep, and avoiding risky behaviors such as alcohol and drugs. Emotional wellness focuses on managing one’s emotions and establishing good interpersonal relationships. Spiritual wellness consists of a set of guiding beliefs or principles, compassion, forgiveness and joy.
This study mainly explores the influencing mechanism of people’s health consciousness on home-based exercise during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results indicate that health consciousness has a positive effect on home-based exercise, and this effect is mediated by health life goal and perceived behavioral control. These findings are important for promoting the transformation of wellness consciousness into home-based exercise.
